Speak What You Seek
/The first time I even thought of entertaining something along the lines of an affirmation was when I started watching Being Mary Jane. The sticky notes all over the house filled with quotes and messages that she could refer to at any time seemed like an amazing idea. Unfortunately for me, I'm a neat freak and would lose my shit over the idea of having a bunch of tiny papers stuck up all over my house so I quickly scrapped that idea.
I was looking for something I could refer to on the go and was browsing soundcloud for affirmations when I stumbled upon Tracy G's playlist "Love, Light, & That Good Shit." As I lay in bed listening to the playlist I was like
FINALLY! Finally somebody gets it! Somebody understands how much going to the gym seems so impossible some mornings but worth it in the end. Somebody understands how easy it is to fall into comparing yourself to others with social media. Somebody understands the craziness of navigating personal relationships and the relationship with yourself.
These affirmations felt like they were coming from someone close to me. Actually, it sounded like they were coming from ME. Well, if I had a little me living on my left shoulder giving me advice to live my best most productive life and occasionally chin checking the doubtful me living on my right shoulder.
Since listening to these audio vision boards, I've gotten a little bit more comfortable with creating my own affirmations. This practice has been so powerful because I'm more conscious of my thinking and the words I use when I speak about myself and what I want out of life. It allows me to put things in perspective and have a more optimistic attitude. I like to think of it as training my thoughts to mirror my actions.
Here are my top 5 audio vision boards from Tracy G's, She's Beauty & The Beast.
